E-Invoicing and “VAT in the Digital Age” in Europe

1Introduction

In 2025 the EU adopted the VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) package. A central pillar is e-invoicing and near-real-time digital reporting for intra-EU B2B transactions, phased in by 2030.

2Discussion

The aims are to narrow the VAT gap, fight fraud and simplify compliance. Many member states already require e-invoicing domestically.

3Conclusion

The trend is clear: paper-based financial documents are giving way to structured data, and organisations that digitise petty cash, invoicing and accounting now will be better prepared.
