Third-Party Risk and Cloud Services: The FSB Toolkit

1Introduction

Financial institutions increasingly rely on third parties for cloud, software and data processing. In December 2023 the FSB issued a toolkit to enhance third-party risk management and oversight.

2Discussion

It advises identifying critical services, mapping the technology supply chain, planning for disruption and exit, and reporting incidents.

3Conclusion

In 2019 the FSB had warned that cloud concentration among a few large providers could create common vulnerabilities. Outsourcing a service does not outsource responsibility for its risk.
