Financial Inclusion Worldwide: Findings of Global Findex 2025

1Introduction

The World Bank’s Global Findex, published every three years since 2011, tracks how adults save, borrow and pay. The 2025 edition is based on surveys of about 145,000 adults in 141 economies during 2024.

2Discussion

79% of adults worldwide now have an account at a bank, similar institution or mobile money provider, up from 51% in 2011. Still, 1.3 billion adults remain unbanked, half of them in just eight economies.

Digital payments drive this growth: 62% of adults in low- and middle-income economies made or received a digital payment in 2024, and digital merchant payments reached 42% of all adults. Saving in an account rose from 24% in 2021 to 40%.

3Conclusion

The 2025 edition also introduces a Digital Connectivity Tracker measuring mobile access and use, underlining that mobile and internet infrastructure is now part of financial inclusion.
