The EU AI Act and Credit Scoring: High-Risk Systems

1Introduction

The EU AI Act, the world’s first comprehensive AI law, entered into force on 1 August 2024 and applies in phases.

2Discussion

It classifies systems by risk. In finance, credit scoring of natural persons and life and health insurance pricing are designated high-risk.

3Conclusion

High-risk systems must meet requirements on risk management, data quality, documentation, transparency and human oversight — a clear signal for any firm using AI in credit decisions.
