1Introduction

Mobile money, usually offered by mobile operators, lets users send and receive money and pay bills from a basic phone without a bank account, with agent networks handling cash in and out.

2Discussion

GSMA’s annual State of the Industry Report on Mobile Money shows these services have become core financial infrastructure, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.

3Conclusion

The World Bank’s Global Findex notes that in many economies, account growth has come mainly through mobile money. Simplicity, mobile access and distribution matter as much as technology.
