ISO/IEC 42001: Artificial Intelligence Management Systems

1Introduction

ISO and IEC published ISO/IEC 42001 in December 2023, the first international management system standard for artificial intelligence. It applies to any organisation that provides or uses AI-based products or services.

2Discussion

Its structure mirrors familiar standards such as ISO/IEC 27001 and follows Plan-Do-Check-Act. Requirements include an AI policy, risk assessment and impact assessment of AI systems on individuals and society, data governance and lifecycle controls.

3Conclusion

Organisations can be certified. For fintech firms, certification is a practical way to demonstrate responsible AI to customers, partners and regulators.
