Singapore’s Project Guardian: Testing Asset Tokenisation with Industry

1Introduction

Project Guardian is a collaborative initiative launched by the Monetary Authority of Singapore in May 2022 with the financial industry, to test the feasibility and applications of asset tokenisation and DeFi while managing risks to financial stability and integrity.

2Discussion

Banks and asset managers have run pilots in fixed income, funds, foreign exchange and wealth management. Regulators from other jurisdictions, including Japan, the UK and Switzerland, later joined its policymakers group.

3Conclusion

The collaboration has produced frameworks for common tokenisation standards in fixed income and funds. Its message: tokenisation reaches real markets when shared rules, interoperability and supervisory support exist.
